Hasbro Announces Fleet of Movies to Follow “Battleship”

Hasbro has been successful with the release of the Transformers series. Since, they have released G.I. Joe, and Battleship, which was released in early April in Japan and the UK; Battleship will see US big screens on May 18. Director Peter Berg and Universal Studios are projecting that the alien-driven film starring Liam Neeson and Rihanna will be a hit in the US.

In light of the success of board game movies, Universal will be releasing a slew of new board game inspired films.

Simon, which will be released November 2012, will follow a man and his robot. The robot will face a major glitch in which a touch-screen light-up panel will flash a series of color that must be tapped through memory. The hesitant owner, Bill Cosby, will try to disarm his robot, Alec Baldwin, while aided by head of the bomb squad, Hulk Hogan.

Barrel of Monkeys, coming February 2013, will star a plucky child, Nolan Gould (Modern Family), who spends an entire day trying to win every monkey in a claw machine.

Jenga, projected to be the big movie of Summer 2013, will chronicle the heroic journey of a group of construction workers who must remove essential support beams when the Empire State Building catches fire. The lives of thousands are in the hands of the brave men and women in yellow helmets. Jenga stars Steve Buscemi, Nicholas Cage, Joaquin Phoenix, Michelle Rodriguez, and Octavia Spencer.

The adaptation of Life is said to follow three growing families that must face the same question: college or career? Once the choice is made, the families follow similar life paths, proving that no matter where we come from we are all more alike than we think.

Hungry, Hungry, Hippos is in the works as an animated film starring John Goodman, Rosie O’Donnell, and Eddie Murphy. No plot lines have been released by Universal, but they promise that the film will be entertaining to children and adults alike.

Hasbro and Universal plan to keep the board game movies coming. Other rumored releases include Twister, Hi-Ho Cherrio, and Guess Who.
